Women’s Day in Romania
In Romania, the month of March marks a time to honor and celebrate the women in your life. This celebration is known as “Martisor”, and it is traditionally celebrated on both the 1st of March and the 8th of March. The 1st of March is viewed as the beginning of spring, when the natural beauty of the land returns after winter. It is also when young girls and women alike receive gifts or flowers for the beauty that they bring. The week after, on the 8th of March, is International Women’s Day, but in Romania, it is also viewed as Mother’s Day as well. Overall, this time at the beginning of March highlights a charming part of Romania’s culture and brings joy and shows appreciation to the women across the country.
To honor the women in our community, we helped the children in the after-school program make floral crafts to gift to the special women in their lives. The children took great delight in being able to create something to show their appreciation.
Through the work of our women’s group at our church, we put together a Women’s Day night open for all the women of the community to attend. Every detail was done to show our love from the florals, painted signs, bible verse bookmarks, and even Celeste’s shortbread cookies. It meant a lot to give these women a time and space to come together, show love to one another, and ,most importantly, to be reminded how valued they are by God. We are so grateful for the turnout and the part each lady played in making this night so memorable.
